Fri, 15 October 2010
Greyhound racing’s latest state-of-the-art stadium is one the finest of its kind in the world and arrives at a time when Limerick is the European City of Sport in 2011. The stadium recently opened it doors to the public on 8th October 2010, providing a showcase of the best Limerick has to offer in terms of entertainment, greyhound racing, fine dining and hospitality.
The 2,500m2 4-storey grandstand and terraces will have a capacity of 2900 and will also include a 1,500m2 office building with new all-weather racetrack, kennel and ancillary blocks. The roof of the main stadium supports the planar glazing it has a series of Macalloy 460 tendons used as cantilevered trusses from the back of the stadium.
Initially Macalloy gave advice on loadings, parallel stressing and installation. As always, Macalloy worked to the loadings and sequence that were supplied by Atkins, the Project Engineer. Lee Parker, Macalloy’s Site Services Technician was on site from 15th to the 18th February this year and was involved with the stressing of 40 bars sized from M76 to M90, using the TT04 TechnoTensioner.
