Steel Structure Awards - 12/01/2007

Barrandov footbridge

The contest for the best steel structures was recently held by the Czech Association of Steel Structures and consisted of three categories:

  • Bridges, Towers and Pylons
  • Industrial, Technological Structures and Reconstructions
  • Civic and Sports Structures

Tension Systems s.r.o. the exclusive distributor for Macalloy products in the Czech Republic was awarded prizes for categories Bridges, Towers and Pylons as well as Civic and Sports Structures.

Tension Systems s.r.o. came second for the construction of the Footbridge Barrandov in Prague.  The footbridge utilised galvanised M85 and M36 tendons including forks, pins, lock covers and turnbuckle joints.  The Macalloy Site Services team assisted with the on-site prestressing of the tendons.

The top two positions for the Civic and Sports Structures class were also awarded to Tension Systems s.r.o.

The Metro Station Prosek (Strizkov) won first place. A series of M30, M48 and M16 tendons were used complete with forks, pins, lock covers and turnbuckle joints, all in Macalloy 460 stainless steel.  Once in situ, the stainless tendons were then tensioned using the Macalloy TechnoTensioner.  Special M56 stainless pins were also manufactured for use in the main pillars of the structure.

Second place was awarded to Stadium Poprad, a multi-purpose sports hall.  Carbon M64 & M10 tendons were used on this project as well as Guy Linking cable tendons in 12mm & 16mm diameters.  Tension Systems also utilised the Macalloy TechnoTensioner to prestress the structure after installation.

Business Centre Chodov received a certificate of merit for this category.  M10, M12 and special M8 tendons were used complete with a series of central connection discs.

Macalloy is hopeful that with the portfolio of projects that Tension Systems s.r.o is currently realising, there will be more awards to come in the near future!
