Being the first company to develop a post tensioning bar system in 1948, Macalloy throughout the decades has always adapted and innovated its products to meet the needs of the construction market. A key development that illustrates Macalloy's engineering capabilities was the development of the first architectural tie bar, which was first used in the world famous Renault building designed by Fosters and Partners in 1983.
As a result of continually striving to develop new products, Macalloy has developed a range of architectural tie bars, which in recent years has seen the Macalloy 520, Macalloy Architectural Compression Strut and Macalloy Standard Compression Strut been added to the range. This subsequently has lead to Macalloy having an ever growing presence as world leaders in the design and supply of architectural bar systems to the construction industry.
Recent projects such as Dubai Airport, Golden Jubilee Bridge and Qatar National Convention Centre - Sidra Trees, illustrates that Macalloy are always prepared to tailor to the customers needs enabling an idea to become a practical reality. Over the last few years it has engineers queries that have led to Macalloy developing non-standard components been designed and manufactured to suit specific aesthetic or capacity requirements.
A few of the recent non-standard components that been developed include:
- Angled turnbuckles and couplers
- Turnbuckles with welded Fin Plate
- Denso tape wrapping to debond the bar from the concrete
- Prototype cable clamps for Changi Airport, Singapore
- Twin spade fitting has been designed, manufactured and used in projects such as 88 Wood Street, London
- Backstay connection detail, used in the construction of the Golden Jubilee Bridge
