Macalloy Architectural Tension Bars Support Glass Façade; Changi Airport, Singapore

A series of Macalloy Architectural Tie Rods were used for the glass facade at Changi Airport. Macalloy also developed bespoke components exclusively for this project. The products supplied by Macalloy were integral to the airport design.

Macalloy tie rods are used to support the 35 high glass façade at the access to the MRT station at Changi airport terminal, Singapore.

Macalloy manufactured a range of bespoke components for the installation including a cable clamp and cross over node that allowed a tie bar to pass through the node and and for the node to move slightly on the bar.

The Changi Airport Terminal connects passengers to the extended subway line, providing a pedestrian link between two of the airports three terminals.

This project has won many awards including:

  • Singapore Building and Construction Authority - Construction Excellence Award
  • AIA - New York City Chapter - Design Award Architecture

Architect - S.O.M Architects

Engineer - Meinhardr, Singapore

Contractor - Y.K.K
